We currently have a Sales Lead position available to lead our Western US territory.  This role is with Seminis, a brand within the Bayer Vegetable Business. This role will report to the NAM Vegetable Commercial Lead.  The location of this role can be in-territory (California field based or our Oxnard, CA office) or in St. Louis, MO.

This position will provide leadership to field sales team by accompanying Sales Reps on calls to key growers, dealers or other influential leaders to drive sales and relationship in the area.  Continually upgrade field sales force with coaching and problem solving skills.  Insure field sales force executes business plans in order to achieve unit goals while managing profitable average selling price and product mix.  

Responsibilities:
  • Achieve sales and Gross Margin targets for area of responsibility and monitor resource budget (free seed, District Seed Credits, program discounts, etc.) Manage SG&A for the area
  • Select great people through recruiting, hiring and if necessary, terminating employment.
  • Set the direction, assess, motivate, develop, and create a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Manage and coach the Sales Reps within the area. Provide timely and effective feedback to the team as it relates to their DPR and Business Plan goals and tasks. Assess job performance and take action where appropriate (Challenges/Performance Improvement Plans).
  • Interaction with other functions of the company: TD, MKT, PM, SA, FIN, SC, HR and other functions
  • Ensure the proper training to the team by utilizing designated classroom and in-field instruction to improve specific competencies, skills, and talent as it relates to sales, product, presentation, and district management.
  • Assist the Sales Reps in successfully completing business plans that include use of sales force, RADL and Account planning
  • Lead the West Area business plan that is aligned with the strategic initiatives of Seminis, the brand value proposition, and local market needs. The business plan will drive core strategy and manage budgeted resources to drive sales and profitability.
  • The Sales Lead is expected to be in the field up to 50% of the time
  • Monitor business management of the sales area including all budgets, market analysis, production forecasting, allocation plans, IBP participation, feedback about product performance, inventory and profitability.
  • Responsible for proper implementation of all programs and policies. Clearly communicate company policies are not to be changed unless permission has been granted from management.
  • Conduct timely, impactful sales meetings and coordinate weekly communications to your sales team for the continued development of your area.
  • The sales manager is responsible for the Sales Forecast for the West Region
  • Conduct work habits in a manner that is beneficial to Seminis and aligned with the core values and accepted protocol.

    Qualifications:
  • Be champion of Bayer Company corporate decisions and communications.
  • Serve as an integral part of the Sales Regional Leadership Team.
  •  Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred (agronomy, agriculture, business, biology or related field preferred)           
  • Minimum of five years of sales, marketing, product management or account management experience.
    Financial, time, and territory management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Recognized for leadership, people management, and relationships building / teaming skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, assertiveness, and results orientation.
  • Experience working in the seed industry.
  • Experience calling on large farmers and dealers and ability to influence their decisions.
  • Ability to successfully work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook)

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred (agronomy, agriculture, business, biology or related field preferred)
  • Minimum of five years of sales, marketing, and account management experience.
  • Financial, time, and territory management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Recognized for leadership, people management, and relationships building / teaming skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, assertiveness, and results orientation.
  • Experience working in the seed industry.
  • Experience calling on large farmers and ability to influence their decisions.
  • Ability to successfully work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook).
  • Ability to pass a background check, substance abuse test, and driving record background check (i.e., moving violations, accidents, license suspension, etc.).
  • Trait and Seed knowledge and experience in general agronomics, pest management, and plant physiology desirable.  (Certified Crop Advisor certification desired.)
  • Desire for long term career advancement (i.e., Marketing, Product Management, Logistics, Training, Finance)
  • Willingness to travel and live/work in a rural environment.
