Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated Nursery Technology Lead. This position will be in St. Louis, MO (Chesterfield) and reporting to the Agronomy & Automation Strategy Lead. 
This position is a great opportunity to work on an exciting, fast-paced team with a leading company in the agricultural industry.  The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop, deploy, and support innovative solutions to accelerate Bayer’s new seeds and traits pipeline.  
Key Responsibilities:   
  • Assure the successful startup, testing, and adoption of new equipment 
  • Perform on-site testing, user training, and minimal technical service work 
  • Assist in the development of user guides, troubleshooting guides, retrofit procedures, training materials, etc. 
  • Work with the equipment operators to diagnose issues  
  • Work closely with the design teams on new equipment and continuous equipment improvement issues 
  • Build positive relationships with Bayer's partner groups and 3rd party equipment vendors 
  • Identify local vendors to supply spare parts, to machine custom parts, and to fabricate automation equipment 
  • Partner with Govt. Affairs and Community Relations to ensure Freedom to Operate with our new technologies 
Required Skills/Experience: 
  • B.S. or M.S. in engineering, agronomy, automation technologies, or related fields 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with automated instrumentation/equipment for laboratory, production, and/or agricultural field environments. 
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude   
  • Experience with Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) 
  • Experience in developing training presentations and presenting training classes 
  • Ability to work independently to diagnose strategic solutions to operating challenges  
  • Project management experience desired 
  • Ability to travel domestic and international at an estimated frequency of every other month 

Desired Skills/Experience:  

  • 5 years directly relevant experience in field, irrigation, and remote sensing equipment 
  • Demonstrated background in operation of agricultural equipment (planters, harvesters, etc.)
