Manufacturing Business Unit Leader

The Manufacturing Business Unit Leader has primary responsibility at the Soda Springs plant for the management, operation, and maintenance of all manufacturing units and functions including the kiln, furnaces, utilities, material handling, and phosphorus shipping. In addition, this position serves as a key member of the Site Leadership team, which sets over-all plant vision and culture to ensure safety, environmental, quality, and financial goals are met.
Scope / Specific Responsibilities of the Position:  
  • Accountable for all plant operations and maintenance from ore reclaim to P4 shipping and by-product handling to ensure reliable supply of quality P4 to our customers
  • Collaborate with Site Leadership Team to provide organizational and operational vision and strategies for the site
  • Optimizes people performance and development through mentoring, coaching, training, recognition, progression plans, and developmental opportunities
  • Create a safety culture through exposure based safety initiatives, process safety management, and operational discipline
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, trust, and empowerment to increase employee engagement
  • Improve decision making and performance across all focus areas through management system using KPI’s, teamwork, standardized work, visual management, focused improvement, and Lean principals
  • Understand customer needs and work towards exceeding their expectations, driving a customer centric mindset within the organization
  • Development and execution on annual LRP and budget for production volumes
  • Support site involvement to cultivate trust within the community
Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Agriculture or related area
  • 10+ years experience in a manufacturing operations role
  • 5+ years experience in a people leadership role
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in developing people and teams
  • Ability to influence across diverse stakeholder groups to enable outcomes
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to take complex ideas and communicate them in clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and become a catalyst for change; effectively leads change initiatives within groups and teams despite conflict
  • Ability to make tough and effective decisions on business and people to move the team forward in a timely manner based on critical knowledge
  • Strong computer skills related to data acquisition, organization, and data analysis
