Temporary HSE Technician

The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Technician will report to the Site Lead and work directly with the HSE Specialist and site personnel to achieve all aspects of coordination and implementation of the site safety program and site administrative needs.  


Key Business Accountabilities:

The HSE Technician is responsible for assisting the site personnel in all facets of coordination and implementation of the site safety program. Primary key business accountabilities include:

1. Working both with site management and staff to achieve desired HSE goals of the site. Through leadership of all HSE required safety programs the employee will balance site observations, auditing, and employee coaching in day-to-day activities with documentation and development of site training and improvement areas. Promote a “zero accident tolerance” standard of safety
2. Prepare and retain training documents, job safety analyses, and other documents related to site safety activities as required by site management and HSE staff. Ensure training is reported, tracked and competency is evaluated for Safety
3. Have practical hands on knowledge of the field research process to better understand issues and effectiveness of HSE programs
4. Assist with the collection of Industrial Hygiene data, which may involve travel
5. Performs other HSE duties as directed by the HSE Specialist
6. Manage Administrative Initiatives for the Saskatoon site, and select satellite sites

Core Business/Functional Skills and Education: 

• High School diploma or GED, with two or more years of college desirable in Agronomy, Agribusiness, Engineering, ESH, or related field of study
• Outstanding leadership and communications skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means
• Demonstrated decision-making ability. Self-starter and highly motivated, possessing strong problem solving skills and demonstrate ability to address issues
• Results/detail-orientation and the ability to work with a sense of urgency
• Capability to work with site management, HSE staff, and site employees in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives
• Working knowledge of HSE, Federal and Provincial regulations, and basic administrative tasks
• Demonstrated interest/aptitude in agriculture and research
• Desire and ability to foster and enhance a safety culture and safe working environment
• Flexibility and ability to adjust quickly to changing conditions and work demands
• Effective interpersonal communication and teamwork skills, conflict management, work accuracy, timeliness, and adaptability to change

Desired Skills / Education / Experience:

• Safety related training, Agricultural Diploma, College degree or trade school degree preferred
• Knowledge and experience with Behavioral Based Safety practices
• Previous experience in an HSE or related safety field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP, familiarity with statistical methodology and practices
• Experience in an ISO controlled environment
