Monsanto is a global leader in the development of new traits, germplasm, and technologies for the specialized needs of the Asia farmers. The Asia Africa global breeding pipeline enablement team is seeking an Asia Plant Health Pathology lead whom would be responsible to partner with many team to ensure the development of competitive corn hybrids for the Asia market that have superior plant health resistance to impact all our farmers.
Responsibilities:
This role will be focused on driving and supporting a dynamic team to deliver on world class disease phenotyping methods for maize hybrids and lines. This includes leveraging novel approaches to characterize maize germplasm, and implementing improvements of the current disease phenotyping processes.
Lead the Native Trait and Marker Strategies for Asia from discovery to deployment which includes identifying novel approach and sources of disease resistance that can be leveraged into strategic genetic backgrounds using technology and analytics.
Collaborate with global partnering teams to develop key disease product concepts and implement a long-term pathology strategy for Asia to deliver commercial products with the required disease profiles
This person would serve as a member of the Asia Africa extended leadership team to develop strategies’, coordinate activities and implement best practices to impact both the breeding programs and the commercial portfolio.
Knowledge and Skill:
  • Advance degree: MSc/Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Plant Sciences, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Statistical Genetics, Molecular Breeding, or a related field
  • Additional experience of plus 5 or more years of post-doctoral experience and/or industry-related experience.
  • Strong leadership skills to lead and manage an effective team with geographic distance and cultural differences
  • Individual leadership skills that included excellent organization, interpersonal, and effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to work effectively in a team-based and cross-functional team in a dynamic environment.
  • Multitasking, being hands-on and being proactive are essential for success in this role while energy and agility are also positive attributes for this role.
  • Experience in pathology disease and the application of quantitative genetics and applied statistics are desirable, additionally an understanding of the concepts, tools, and methods used in analytical analysis would be an asset
  • Ensure that the research team is trained and compliant with the Monsanto ESH safety policies to ensure safe operations of the research program
  • Recruitment, training, development and retention of research support personnel
  • Required to travel locally and internationally as needed. This role will involve traveling at least 10% of the time throughout the calendar year.
  • The ability to write and speak English fluently is essential
  • A valid driver’s license is a mandatory
