Process Chemist (St. Louis, MO – Luling, LA)

Monsanto has an immediate need for a Process Chemist to provide plant support for Dicamba process at the Monsanto plant in Luling, Louisiana. The successful candidate will work closely with Process Engineering, Analytical, and R&D Technology teams under minimal supervision and with significant independent judgment to troubleshoot and ensure the operations with no interruption. A broad-based organic chemistry background is required for the position. A demonstrated track record of successful optimization and technical support of chemical manufacturing processes is a prerequisite for this position. The position requires a strong technical background of problem solving, and the ability to communicate effectively with a commitment to achieving results by influencing in a matrix environment.

Position will be located in St. Louis, Missouri for approximately one year dependent on business needs and then will require relocation to Luling, LA.

Responsibilities include:
• Support optimization and provide technical support of Dicamba manufacturing process.
• Support optimization and provide technical support of existing chemical manufacturing processes for other herbicides and pesticides at the Luling Plant.
• Execute laboratory and support plant scale studies focused on the optimization of chemical manufacturing processes.
• Work closely with process engineering, analytical, and technology teams to assure the safe and effective operation of chemical production facilities.
• Identify, develop, and implement improved technology for the manufacture of Dicamba, other pesticides, and key intermediates.
• Collaborate with multiple world-wide business and process support/optimization teams to maximize the impact of the department's effort on the bottom-line.
• Work and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in manufacturing and have the potential for future leadership roles.
• Collaborate with R&D Technology team to troubleshoot the plant scale performance.
• Work closely with the analytical lab and understand the results to reconcile with the process performance.

Required Education and Skills/Experience:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry or other related field in Chemistry
• Minimum of two or more years of industrial experience in a similar role supporting existing technology
• Minimum of two or more years of experience in process development from the lab to the pilot plant and into production
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to be a self-starter and work independently and drive collaborative projects forward to draw conclusions and communicate recommendations
• Ability to study and carefully analyze selected reactions in both a lab and plant environment
• Self driven with ability to proactively search for opportunities to optimize and reduce costs
• Ability to work in St. Louis, Missouri for approximately one year and then relocate to Luling, LA

Desired Education and Skills/Experience:
• PhD or Master’s degree
• Prior experience in Dicamba technology
• Prior experience working for a global organization in a matrix environment
• Technical project and/or people leadership experience with the intent to grow in leadership responsibilities
• Documented record of high business impact when working on multidisciplinary teams
• Ability in both laboratory and manufacturing plant environments to study and carefully analyze in detail selected reactions, including reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and analytical data
