Canola Research Assistant (12 month contract)

Carman, Manitoba, Canada

Key Business Accountabilities.

Monsanto Canada is a leading provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity. Our facility in Carman, Manitoba is seeking an innovative and team-oriented individual to join their team as Canola Research Assistant. The position is a 12 month contract. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Assists in the timely setup, receiving seed, organization of seed and seed packaging of canola plots.

  2. Follows ESH policies and procedures for safe operation of the local research facility and program

  3. Safely operate and maintain seed research equipment (seed counters, seed cleaners,etc)

  4. Work with and supervise temporary or casual seed setup and seed cleaning labor

  5. Provide assistance for data analysis and presentation

Scope of the Job.

  1. Committed to safe work practices and has direct involvement in ESH programs and policies including site inspections, pre-use inspections, etc.

  2. Supervises seed setup crew in seed and trial preparation with activities including seed counting, sorting, placing envelopes into planting order, and verification of planting order

  3. Coordinate and print 120,000 seed envelopes for seed setup and harvest

  4. Works closely with the Data Coordinator to ensure seed packets are verified and shipped accordingly

  5. Ensures seed cleaning and lab submission paperwork is updated regularly

  6. Active participant in updating and training of QMS procedures

  7. Long hours during harvest assisting the Data Coordinator with plot analysis and datasummarization in Excel, Access, and Apollo

  8. Regular interaction with the other Research Agronomists and Testing Manager
Core Business/FunctionalSkills and Education.

  1. Minimum High School Diploma required, post-secondary Diploma or Degree would be an asset
  2. Basic knowledge of Canadian crop production and farming practices
  3. Effective verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, well organized
  4. Computer proficiency and previous experience with Microsoft Office applications
  5. Valid driver’s license
  6. Ability to work long hours and manage seasonal OT in accordance with applicable regulations
